Statistician Details

Typical Statistician duties and responsibilities include:

Job Description: Writing and implementing computer programs to make statistical calculations necessary for selecting samples; discussing and providing specifications to the task leader/project director and construction of data files from which these samples are drawn and from which variances, statistical weights, and standard errors are calculated; performing quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy of sampling procedures implemented; contributing to and/or reviewing the sampling sections of sample design reports, final technical reports, and other documentary deliverables; and working with the client on sampling issues, providing technical information on the types of analyses, limitations of the data, and strengths/weaknesses of various sampling strategies. Other responsibilities include calculating weights, non-response rates, and standard error estimates as part of documenting sample selection and implementation and carrying out substantive analysis on projects with analytical deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Create predictive models from complex data
  • Provide programming support to facilitate modeling, statistical analyses, and for the development of end-user tools
  • Work with statisticians and non-statisticians in the development of improved methods and processes for implementing predictive analytics
  • Collaborate with chemists and engineers on statistical matters, understand their problems, and find creative ways to address the issues
  • Effectively communicate results through oral presentations and written reports

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in statistics or closely related field
  • Up to 5 years experience in statistics
  • Strong interest and skills in modeling, statistical programming, and problem solving
  • Ability to work with large and/or messy data sets
  • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively
